Track Review – ‘The Cure’ by Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga needs no introduction Ms Stefani Joane Angelina Germanotta is quite simply music industry royalty and deservedly so.

The Cure is her latest offering and Little Monsters, what an offering you have! Let’s face it, Gaga can pretty much do no wrong she’s got the Midas touch and was writing for other artists long before launching her own pop career.

In true Gaga fashion, this is an infectious little number with hooks that catch you like claws and melodies like lullabies. Slow dance with your other half, belt it out with your sisters on a night out, sing into your hairbrush and as we say in Scotland: ‘Goan yersel!’ This song is everything! I love it! The lyrics are pure perfection (Hey, I’m a fan girl what do you expect?)

Have a listen below:

She will play shows in England this Autumn:

11th – O2 Arena, London
12th – Genting Arena, Birmingham
15th – Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham

Track Review – ‘Chasing Shadows’ by The Sherlocks

With two sets of brothers hailing from Sheffield and one mammoth sound, The Sherlocks have released their new single Chasing Shadows and it has a lyric about being ‘out your tree.’ Any song which has this as a lyric is an instant winner!

The Sherlocks are:

Kiaran Crook – Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
Josh Davidson – Lead Guitar
Andy Davidson – Bass
Brandon Crook – Drums

Chasing Shadows instantly brings three things to mind:

1. This is a summer anthem which should be played at the loudest volume you can get.
2. Picture the scene: summer festival, all your pals and complete strangers jumping around to this song on a nice summer’s day*
*even if it’s raining, you’ll still have a ball.
3. This would sound banging in a massive arena of 10,000 people screaming about chasing shadows and the ‘OH’s.’

Crook’s standout drum beat will immediately have you moving and grooving for 3 minutes and 48 seconds of pure indie delight before progressing into a chorus so rememberable you will be singing it for days on end, coming from personal experience.

Check out the video below:

Track Review – ‘Blessings’ by Tom Walker

It’s no secret that Tom Walker is one of my favourite live acts, he’s an absolute dream to see in the flesh. Born in Scotland and raised in Manchester (the opposite to my father) he’s a recent signing to Sony’s Relentless Records.

Image may contain: text

Tom’s guitar playing is proper ridiculous – as in toe-curlingly good! With a rock/reggae edge, Blessings is utterly flawless from Tom’s rich gravelly vocals, the chord combination, the beat, and the lyrics to this tune are so catchy it will cause an epidemic of awesomeness!

Blessings is about well, counting your blessings, and enjoying the little things in life with the people you love. The mention of FIFA and an ice cold beer put me in mind of many a Friday night with the lads at mine and made me smile at the memories. It’s already stuck in my head and we’ll be singing our wee hearts out when we see Tom at King Tuts next month!

Blessings is the first track from the Blessings EP which is available to pre- order right now on iTunes with a release date of the 12th May!

Track Review – ‘Control’ by Twin Wild

Fresh from supporting PRIDES on their UK tour last month, Twin Wild have been busy in the studio recording some tracks for impatient fans lusting after new music.

After streaming the My Heart EP for God knows how long, the London lads have returned with triumphant new single Control. A song about not having anyone take over the things in your life, Control features a very solid drumbeat which gets into your bones very quickly and had you moving along to the rhythm.

Lead vocalist Richard sings loud and proud ‘Yeah I be who I want to be, you ain’t got no control on me’ which is relatable to people who feel as if people are running their lives that other people want for them and not necessarily themselves. Running in at 2 minutes and 53 seconds, Richard Hutchison, Imran Mair, David Cuzner, Edward Thomas still manages to get their message out that they are not taking any bullshit from anyone and they will do the things the TW way – and that’s a pretty awesome way of living their lives.

The song generates an overall positive vibe and if you feel like you’ve lost your way a little, turn this up to maximum volume and sing it from your heart.

The only control I have is to dictate how long I will be listening to the song on repeat for and my estimation is that it will be for at least for the rest of today and tomorrow.

Catch Twin Wild on their upcoming UK tour:

18th – Radar Love Club Night, Derby (Tickets)
19th – Kasbah, Coventry
21st – The Rocking Chair, Sheffield
23rd – Adelphi, Hull
25th – The Sugarmill, Stoke-On-Trent
26th – Also Known As, Banbury (FREE ENTRY)
27th – The Cellar, Oxford

Track Review – ‘Hard Times’ by Paramore

Before tears and After Laughter, somewhere in the middle, there is the utter joy of knowing that Paramore are well and truly back in full force.

Teasing fans by unveiling the album cover over on their Facebook page, the band have FINALLY unveiled what their fans have been waiting on for YEARS now. This is Hard Times.

Different from the band’s usual sound of straight in your face epic guitar riffs, Hayley, Taylor and Zac (who has returned to the band after leaving in 2010) have opted for some tropical vibes before the drums and guitar riffs kick in.

Once the chorus gets into full swing, you will have your whole body dancing along to the melody which has more of a bubblegum-esque pop feel rather than a throwback to their All We Know Is Falling and RIOT! days. With lyrics so infectious it’ll get stuck in your head for days, it’s a strong comeback for the Tennessee trio.

The video for the Hard Times is nothing short of a colour palette’s dream. With the artistic flair creating stunning visuals and extremely retro tying in perfectly with the theme of the song, kudos to Andrew Joffe and the production team behind the video!

Not what was to be expected but overall it was a successful surprise to open and Paramore, don’t leave it so long next time please?

Their highly anticipated album After Laughter will be released on May 12th via Fueled By Ramen. Pre-Order bundles are available to purchase here.

The band have just announced a UK & Ireland tour including a Scottish show at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on June 22nd!
